Biography
Semyon Poltavsky was born in Odessa in the family of the famous volleyball player Vladimir Poltavsky, he began to engage in volleyball under the guidance of coach Vadim Ungurs. In 1997, he was invited to the Piter-Lada team from St. Petersburg , the Avtomobilist farm team, playing in the first league of the Russian Championship. A year later, he changed his citizenship from Ukrainian to Russian and at the age of 17 made his debut in Avtomobilist [1] . For four seasons, the young player was one of the leaders of the St. Petersburg club.
In 1999, Simon Poltavsky became the winner of the world championships in the national teams of Russia in two age categories - junior and youth. With the “youth team” of the new convocation in 2000 won the gold of the European Championship, and in 2001 - the silver of the World Championship [1] . He made his debut in the Russian national team in June 2002 at the Six Nations tournament in Italy , but because of an injury that summer did not play in official competitions with the Russian team.
In 2002, Semyon Poltavsky signed a contract with the Italian Modena and spent the coming season on loan as a member of another club of the A1 series - Gabeke. Upon completion, he returned to Russia, on May 24, 2003, as part of the World League, held the first official match for the national team, entered the application for the final World League tournament in Madrid and the European Championship in Germany . Poltava continued his club career at Dynamo Moscow .
In the summer of 2005, over the course of several months of the off-season, he changed the role of the player to the position of a diagonal striker. In a new role, he returned to the Russian national team, and with Dynamo in May 2006 he won his country's first champion title in his career. In 2006, he was the captain of the Russian national team, until 2010, he played in all competitions with her participation, repeatedly won individual prizes, including the title of the most valuable player in the European Championship in 2007 . At the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, he won a bronze medal. In total, Poltava spent 152 matches for the Russian team during his career and scored 1626 points in them.
In 2010, he moved from Dynamo to Yaroslavich . In the championship of Russia, Volzhans lost in the quarterfinal series to Kazan “Zenith” and took only 8th place, but Poltavsky won the Andrei Kuznetsov Prize , becoming the first-ever holder of the title to the best volleyball player of Russia among players whose team did not qualify for the championship [2] .
In the future, back problems did not allow Poltavsky to play for the Russian team in 2011, and a shoulder injury and a long recovery period after the operation forced him to miss most of the 2011/12 season, in which he was a Fakel player. In the summer of 2012, Semyon Poltavsky returned to Dynamo Moscow, but due to a relapse of injury he again did not have much playing practice. In Dynamo matches, as at the beginning of his career, he played mainly as a follower [3] [4] .
In July 2013 in Odessa, Simon Poltavsky paired with Alexander Gorbachev, the grandson of the famous Soviet coach Yevgeny Gorbachev, took part in one of the rounds of the Ukrainian beach volleyball championship [5] [6] . In the season 2013/14 he again played for Yaroslavich .
Season 2014/15 Poltavsky could spend in Belogorye , but after several weeks of training, the Belgorod club management refused the player, and he missed the whole season, failing to find a team [7] .
In the fall of 2015, Simon Poltava replenished the composition of the Krasnodar Dynamo [8] . In May 2016, announced the completion of a sports career [9] .
