Story
Taxi driver Pierre Vergere ( Michel Simon ) travels around Paris with his dog named Gangster. His business is not very successful, his income is small, and the car needs urgent repairs, and besides, his son seems to have an affair with a frivolous woman, because for the first time in his life he is hiding her from her family. Finally, the son decides to introduce his girlfriend Lily, a cabaret dancer, to his parents, but, knowing his father’s attitude to such professions, he comes up with a plan: Lily should get acquainted with Pierre before she finds out that she is his future daughter-in-law. The plan works, the girl manages not only to charm Pierre, but also to convince him that not all dancers are girls of easy virtue. Moreover, he even comes in a cabaret to drink a glass of wine. One of the visitors, an Italian, learning that he drives a taxi, asks for a ride. On the way, they get stuck in traffic, and the Italian, taking advantage of the mess, quietly hides without paying. At the end of the day, the Gangster discovers in the back seat a handbag with 300,000 francs. Pierre, struggling with the temptation to spend money on car repairs, begins to search for the owner of the money, but to no avail - none of his passengers lost anything. The only one he did not find is Italian, but he did not go to Italy to find her. Then he takes the last chance and calls the bartender of the cabaret in which he saw her. The bartender assures him that she sometimes comes in in a cabaret, and offers to come in in the evening. But instead of the Italian Pierre is met by police and taken to the gendarmerie. The Italian turns out to be adventurous, and the money left by Pierre was obtained by her in a fraudulent way. The police have long been watching her, and then in a traffic jam she, having noticed the surveillance, disappeared. Pierre is considered her accomplice, who was supposed to hide the money ...
