Description
Saffron flowers ( Crocus sativus ).
Crocetin is a carotenoid heptane unsaturated carboxylic acid . In its pure form forms a brick red crystals. It is the basic structural component of crocin , a compound that gives color to such a famous spice as saffron .
In Physiology
Oral administration of crocetin reduced physical fatigue in healthy subjects [2] . Crocetin can also improve sleep quality with moderate impairment [3] .
At high doses, crocetin showed a protective effect against retina damage [4] .
