Starichkov Island

Starichkov Island [1] [2] is an island in Russia located off the southeast coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula in the northern part of Sarannaya Bay [2] in the southern part of the Avachinsky Bay of the Bering Sea , northeast of the mouth of the Bolshaya Sarannaya River and south of the city of Petropavlovsk -Kamchatsky and the entrance to Avacha Bay . Got its name from the colony of ordinary old people living on it. Known for its colony of waterfowl and is a specially protected natural area [3] . An ordinary old man nests on the island ( Synthliboramphus antiquus ), listed in the Red Book of the Kamchatka Territory . It is managed by the Kamchatka branch of the Pacific Institute of Geography of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences . The highest point is 147 meters above sea level [1] . To the north of the island are Karaulny stone and Rock Finger (Sentinel) [1] .

Heinrich von Kittlitz . Starichkov Island, rocks

In the years 1826-1829, Heinrich von Kittlitz took part in the round-the-world trip of Fedor Litke on the senewine Senyavin . Kittlitz visited Starichkov Island, captured it in his watercolors and left a description in the essay “Memoirs of a Journey to Russian America, Micronesia and Kamchatka” ( Denkwürdigkeiten einer Reise nach dem russischen Amerika, nach Mikronesien und durch Kamtschatka , 1858). Litke left a description of the island in the essay “Traveling around the world, made by order of Emperor Nicholas I on the military sloop Senyavin in 1826, 1827, 1828 and 1829” [4] [5] .
