Biography

Alanna Kraus was born in 1977 in the city of Abbotsford in the province of British Columbia . Alanna Kraus started doing short track at the age of 4 at the local club Matsqui Blades .

In 2002, Canadian short-tracker performed at her first Olympic Games . The 25-year-old athlete took part in all the disciplines presented. At the 500-meter mark, Kraus dropped out in the semifinals. In the final B, the Canadian athlete became the first and took the final 6th place. At a distance twice as long, Kraus was again in the consolation finale, but this time the athlete in her race was the last and in the final protocol took 8th place. The distance of 1,500 meters has become quite successful for Kraus. The Canadian athlete confidently made her way to the main finals of the competition. In the decisive race, Kraus fell, confronting Chinese Yang Yang (S) , who was later found guilty and disqualified. As a result, Kraus finished only 5th, losing to the other finalists for more than 30 seconds. Kraus achieved the most important success at the Games in the relay race . In the final of the competition, the Canadian team was unable to oppose the Koreans, who set a new world record and the Chinese team, but, having outstripped the Japanese short-track players by almost 6 seconds, the Canadian team won bronze medals in the Olympic Games.

At the 2006 Winter Olympics, Kraus performed in only one individual discipline. At the 500-meter Canadian athlete dropped out in the quarterfinals, taking the final 9th ​​place. In the relay, Canadian speed skaters, like 4 years ago, were able to break into the finals. In the decisive race, the Canadians fought on equal terms with the Korean short-trackers, and only at the very finish did the Asian athletes manage to snatch victory, setting a new world record. The Canadian national team eventually lost 0.296 s to the South Korean national team.

At the world championships, Alanna Kraus won the prize three times. In 2000 and 2006 , Kraus won medals in the relay team, and at the 2004 World Championships she became a bronze medalist at a distance of 1,500 meters.

In 2004, Alanna Kraus was included in the sports hall of fame of the city of Abbotford [1] . In 2008, the athlete announced the completion of a sports career [2] . After completing her career, Kraus worked as a speed skating coach in her native Abbotsford.
