Born in the family of the artist August Keynyanen (Sigfrid August Keinänen). In 1899 he graduated from the Lyceum of Ressun (Ressun lukio) in Helsinki, and four years later, the Helsinki Polytechnic Institute , majoring in architecture. He worked in various architectural firms in Helsinki, and also taught at the higher school of art, design and architecture . Then he moved to Vyborg, where he taught at the Vyborg Vocational School (Viipurin käsityöläiskoulu). In 1928 he replaced Paaovo Watila as chief architect of Vyborg. He worked in this position for five years. Then he worked as a private architect.
