2nd Panzergrenadier Division ( German: 2. Panzergrenadierdivision ) compound in the Bundeswehr Ground Forces . It was part of the 3rd Bundeswehr Corps, which also included the 5th Panzer Division and the 12th Panzer Division. [1] The 3rd Corps was part of the Central Army Group of NATO along with the 2nd Bundeswehr Corps and the American 5th and 7th Corps. As a result of the military reform brought about by the end of the Cold War , the 2nd Panzer Grenadier Division was disbanded in 1994.

The unit was formed as the 2nd Grenadier Division in Kassel on July 1, 1956, as part of the 2nd Bundeswehr Corps. At that time, she commanded the battle groups "A2" and "B2". In 1957, the division was subordinated to the German 3rd Corps, and a year later it received the third combat group "C2". Later, battle groups became the 6th Panzer, 5th Panzer and 4th Panzer Brigades. As part of the reorganization of the army in 1959, the division was renamed the 2nd Panzergrenadier Division, and its headquarters was stationed in Marburg .
In 1970, the division was renamed the 2nd Jaeger (light infantry) division. In 1974, the division headquarters was transferred back to Kassel. The division again became the 2nd Panzergrenadier Division in 1980. After the end of the Cold War, the 2nd Panzergrenadier Division was disbanded in 1994.
