General Description

Current

It starts at an altitude of 2180.3 meters above sea level. In the same area, many tributaries flock to form their origin at heights of more than 2500 m, due to the melting of the Nizagba glaciers in the north near the Turmaaev tract. In the upper reaches, the river bed is directed from west to east. Mostly winding, especially at the beginning of the middle course and closer to the end of the lower. In the middle and lower reaches, the direction of the river is mainly southeastern, and flows mostly in a narrow gorge. It has no large tributaries. All tributaries with a length of less than 10 km. There are no settlements in the Gurka basin, with the exception of the estuary, where the river crosses the village of Pugus and flows into Varzob [3] . Here is the suburban residence of the Government of Tajikistan with the Pugus training center [4] [5] ( ) and a car a bridge connecting both shores of the northwestern part of the village. Opposite the estuary, the Dushanbe – Chanak (M34) highway connecting the southern regions of the country with the Sughd region runs through the Varzob River [3] .

Stock Characteristics

The length of the river is 16 km, the total catchment area is 52.4 km², near the village of Pugus - 51.4 km². The average daily water discharge over an average of twenty years of observation was 17.0 m³ / s (1946-1966). The maximum recorded average daily flow rate is 38.3 m³ / s (1951), the minimum - 7.28 m³ / s (1965). During the low water period, the average runoff modulus is 11.3 l / s per km², and the average runoff layer [Comm 1] is 289 mm. The average duration of the low-water period is 199 days / year. The average dates of the low water start are August 7, and the end is February 23 [1] .

The number of rivers with a length of less than 10 km located in the Gurke basin is 15, their total length is 26 km [2] . The intra-annual runoff coefficient [Comm 2] is 0.24. The month with the largest runoff is May. 17% of the annual runoff falls on the period from July to September. Type of food is mainly snow [1] .

Gurke is part of the III group of rivers with a summer limiting season. The table shows the following characteristics of the river flow (the place of measurement of the village of Pugus) [1] .

The catchment area surface

According to the reference book “Resources of the Surface Water of the USSR” (1971), dense grass cover, subalpine and alpine meadows occupy 6.0% of the total catchment area, 17.0% rocky outcrops, screes, glaciers and firn fields. Forests, bushes and light forests - 65.0% [1] .

The area of the basin with the predominance of rocks is divided as follows [1] :

  1. Pebbles and sands - 5%
  2. Carbonates , clays, marls , limestones, dolomites , salts - 10%
  3. Intrusive , effusive , metamorphic - 85.0%

Notes

Comments

  1. ↑ runoff layer is determined by the degree of moisture in the catchment
  2. ↑ ratio of runoff value for the period July-September to runoff value for the period March-June
