Bianchi, Renee

Rene Bianchi ( French: René Bianchi ; born , ) is a French road and track cyclist who played in the French national team in the second half of the 1950s . Silver medalist of the Summer Olympics in Melbourne in the team pursuit, winner of the Paris-Waii cycling race, winner and medalist of national championships. In 1960, he also played professionally for the Peugeot-BP-Dunlop team.

Biography

Rene Bianchi was born on May 20, 1934 in the commune of Conflans-sur-Seine, department of Marne , France .

He was trained in the department of Ob in the local club of the same name, at first he played in races mainly in the Champagne region.

He first made a name for himself in cycling in the 1955 season, when he performed on the youth amateur Tour of France, twice climbed the podium here - he managed to finish second in the first and twelfth stages.

In 1956, he won the Paris-Vailly amateur race, joined the main team of the French national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympics in Melbourne . In the team pursuit program, together with team partners Michel Vermeulen , Jean-Claude Lekant and Jean Grachik, the Australian team successfully passed the preliminary stage, then at the stages of quarter-finals and semi-finals he defeated the teams of New Zealand and South Africa, respectively. In the decisive final race at the finish line, he lost two seconds to the Italian team and thus won the silver Olympic medal.

After the Melbourne Olympics, Bianchi continued to take part in major international competitions for some time. So, in 1958, he finished fourth in the Prova Ciclística 9 de Julho race in Sao Paulo, Brazil, while in 1959 he became the French champion in the pursuit race.

In 1960, he became a professional and joined one of the largest French teams Peugeot-BP-Dunlop . However, Rene Bianchi did not achieve any significant successes in road cycling.
