History
The author of the monument, Ivan Nikanorovich Sitnikov, a self-taught theater artist, made a bust based on an ancient engraving by A.F. Deryabin . The monument is a bust of A.F. Deryabin in a uniform with the Order of St. Anne and a ribbon over his shoulder. The bust was placed on the dam of the Izhevsk pond opposite the main building of the Izhevsk arms factory , along the same axis with its central tower. Monograms of emperors Alexander I and Nicholas II are placed on both sides of the pedestal. On the bronze plaque on the back of the pedestal there is an inscription “Built in memory of the centenary of the Izhevsk arms factory on June 10, 1807 - June 10, 1907” [4] [3] .
The bust was installed on donations from workers and employees of the plant [6] . After the revolution, the monument was threatened with destruction, but was preserved. In 1956, retaining walls, pedestals with chains and lanterns were built around the monument [7] [4] .
In 2007, on the 200th anniversary of the founding of the arms factory, the monument was restored and moved closer to the pond [8] [9] .
