Frontinsky, Oleg Borisovich

Oleg Borisovich Frontinsky (February 3, 1938, Leningrad ) - Soviet and Russian architect, artist, collector. Member of the Union of Architects of the USSR (1967), laureate of the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for an experimental residential building (1973), member of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation (2000).

Biography

All his life he lives on Vasilievsky Island , having survived the blockade as a child. He was engaged in painting in the art studio of the Palace of Pioneers under the direction of S. D. Levin (1949-1956). He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture of the Academy of Arts (1956-1961, workshop of A. K. Barutchev ).

Among Frontinsky’s neighbors on Vasilievsky Island were poet Oleg Grigoryev and artist Vladimir Shagin , father of the founder of the Mitki group Dmitry Shagin . In the 1960s and 1970s, he was close to the artists of the group of Alexander Arefiev .

In 1962-1986 he worked at the LenNIIIProekt and the Leningrad Zonal Research and Design Institute for the typical and experimental design of residential and public buildings ( LenZNIIEP ). In parallel with architecture, he was engaged in graphics, and later in painting. Since 1970, he studied at the print studio of the Academy of Arts [1] . In 1970-1974, he performed about 40 lithographic landscapes of Leningrad in the lithographic workshop of the Academy of Arts [2] . In 1973 he was awarded the Prize of the Council of Ministers of the USSR for an experimental residential building. After his dismissal from LenNIIIProekt, he began to actively engage in painting.

The main genre is urban landscape . In addition to the artists of Arefiev’s circle, French Frontist modernism is influenced, and in the evolution of the painting style, there is a movement from “liberated color” and pasty style of writing to a greater laconicism of form and localization of color , “from pure picturesqueness towards drawing” [3] .

Frontinsky is a collector and popularizer of the work of artists of the Order of Unsold Painters ( Arefevsky circle) [4] .

Wife Julia Gorskaya - architect, artist. Son Vladimir Frontinsky is an icon painter.

His works are in the collections of the State Russian Museum , the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg , the Museum of Urban Sculpture of St. Petersburg , the Tsarskoye Selo Collection Museum , the Astrakhan Gallery , the Murmansk Regional Art Museum , the Museum of S. A. Yesenin and others, as well as in private collections in Russia, France, Germany, USA.
