About the album
This collection contains all the releases of Teenage Jesus and the Jerks with their previously unreleased concert recordings and recordings of another musical project by Lydia Lunch - Beirut Slump [2] .
The music is minimalistic and abrasive: fake vocals, guitars are upset , drums are extremely simple, and James Chance 's saxophone from Contortions has a sharp sound [explained. 1] [2] [1] . One of the reviewers noted that when listening to this album, you can notice Gothic elements [1] .
Criticism Reviews
Mark Deming from AllMusic awarded this album four out of five stars, saying that “Shut Up and Bleed - brutal and uncompromising music is not for the faint of heart, and there is no doubt that this was what both bands sought. This is vital evidence of the New York know-wave scene in its purest and most destructive manifestations ” [2] .
Punknews.org's Joe Pelone awarded the album three and a half stars out of five, recommending: “If you like post-punk , early Sonic Youth , Ixen Cervenka or any other underground album released after 1979, it might be nice to get this slice stories ” [1] .
