History

In 2010, the United States completed accepting applications for participation in a tender by the US Air Force for the creation and supply of new-generation tanker aircraft. Three companies decided to compete for $ 35-50 billion [3] : Boeing , EADS and Antonov . On the part of the Ukrainian aircraft concern, options were proposed based on the An-112, An-122 and An-124 , but only the first was sent to the competition. The US Air Force rejected this offer [4] , the appeal was also rejected [5] [6] - and as a result, the competition was won by the Boeing KC-46 project. [7] Representatives of the Ukrainian aircraft concern admitted defeat in the tender. [8]

Technical and flight characteristics

An-112KS is an adapted version of the short-takeoff and landing military transport aircraft An-70 with an elongated wing and jet engines made in America instead of turbofan. The equipment of Ukrainian-made D-18T aircraft engines was discarded at the stage of submitting a tender application. According to the proposal, the An-112KS will be able to deliver up to 55 tons of fuel to a distance of 900 kilometers or 15 tons to a distance of 4,500 kilometers. An-112KS will refuel aircraft in the air using three hoses (two on the wing and one in the fuselage ). [9]
