Creation History
The prerequisites for writing the song were the massacres in the American cities of El Paso , Texas and Dayton , Ohio , which occurred on August 3 and 4, 2019, respectively [1] . Del Rey wrote the song on the morning of August 5, on the way from Montecito to Los Angeles, and recorded it in the studio with producer Jack Antonoff and sound engineer Laura Sisk that day. “I know that I’m not a politician, and I’m not trying to be him, so I'm sorry that I have my own opinion - but in the light of all the massacres and shootings that really influenced me, literally at the cellular level, I wanted to share this video with you <...>, ”the performer wrote on Instagram ; in the video, she is accompanied on the guitar by Antonoff [2] . “Looking For America” became available for listening on Spotify [3] and iTunes [4] on August 9 [5] , along with a cover version of “Season of the Witch” recorded for the movie “ Scary Stories for a Story in the Dark ” [6] . On the day of the track’s release, Del Rey announced that all proceeds from Looking For America’s sales would go to the families of those killed in El Paso, Dayton, and Gilroy [7] .
