Like other representatives of the Galiteuthis genus, G. pacifica has two rows of hooks without suction cups at the ends of the tentacles, a short apex and a well-defined carpal process. Lateral photophores of the eyes are located near the pupil and are almost square.

It lives in the tropical Indo-Pacific region from the western Indian Ocean to New Caledonia , Southern California , Panama and northern Chile [3] . In the Pacific Ocean, the range extends northward to 28 Β° C. w. in the central part of the Pacific Ocean, at 34 Β° C. w. in the California course and south up to 30 Β° C. w. in the Peruvian current [4] .
It occurs at depths of 700 m and more. This species does not carry out vertical migration.
