Biography

Born November 29, 1951 in the Urals, in the city of Lysva , Perm Region . He studied at the Leningrad Higher Art - Industrial College. V. I. Mukhina specializing in monumental and decorative art. He lived and worked in St. Petersburg.

In the creative life of the artist there was a period that can be called "icon-painting." For the first time in Russia, Bartov created multi-tiered paintings of the images of the Royal Martyrs and New Martyrs of Russia in the chapel of the Transfiguration of Valaam Monastery . He developed projects of several iconostases, scribble banners, images of saints who have remained the best examples for worship and edification of believers (St. Nicholas of Myra, the Baptist of Russia, the Holy Prince Vladimir, St. Seraphim of Sarov, St. Righteous John of Krondstadt, Martyr and others). The icon painter’s talent is also captured in book graphics (“Letters of the Holy Royal Martyrs from Imprisonment”, “The Signs of God from the Holy Icons” ...). Carried away by the art of design, the artist performed a number of works that are to some extent correlated with his religious art practice, but already marked by a bright expressive personality [2] .

The works of Alexander Bartov, whether it be painting, graphics , mosaics , ceramics , painting of fabrics or interior design projects [3] (Magrib restaurant, St. Petersburg; SPA club complex RA, St. Petersburg; health complex Arcadia, Repino village, Consular Village; Chinar restaurant, St. Petersburg; Tissura tissue house, Moscow; Varzina River Club fishing hotel, Varzina river, Murmansk region) have become a landmark in the art market; they are distinguished by a high level, sophistication of aesthetic preferences and unlimited variety of plots. Bartov always tried to look for a new imagery, and in a broader sense, a new conceptual theme [4] .
