Dekertis, Anthony

Anthony Dekurtis ( born Anthony DeCurtis , born June 25, 1951, New York , NY , USA ) is an American journalist , columnist , writer and media person. Best known as a music columnist for publications such as Rolling Stone , The New York Times , Relix , as well as several other print media.

Career

Dekertis is editor of Rolling Stone magazine , where he has been published for thirty years. He holds a Ph.D. in American Literature from Indiana University and is also an honorary lecturer in the University of Pennsylvania literary program. Dekertis co-authored Clive Davis ' autobiography The Soundtrack of My Life, which was published in 2013 and rose to number two on the New York Times bestseller list. Subsequently, he also participated in the filming of the documentary of the same name based on his book, which opened the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2017. In 2017, another of his books was published - an autobiography of the musician Lou Reed , entitled “Lou Reed: a Life”.

Essay written by Dekertis for Eric Clapton's Crossroads box set (1988) was awarded the Grammy Award in the nomination “Best Notes for the Album” . He also won the ASCAP's Deems Taylor Award three times for outstanding achievements in music publishing. In addition, Dekertis often appears as a music expert on MTV and VH1 programs, as well as on The Today Show and many other news and entertainment programs. In 1996, he was the moderator of VH1 's Four on the Floor show and the editorial director for scientific and technical programming of this channel. In addition, for more than twenty years, he has been a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drawer committee.

From 2006 to 2008, he led and helped develop a curriculum in art and culture at the Graduate School of Journalism at New York City University. He has also been an editorial consultant and chief interviewer for the PBS TV channel Joan Baez: How Sweet The Sound documentary . In 2011, Dekertis participated in the filming of the documentary “Reggae Got Soul: The Story of Toots and the Maytals”, which was shown on the BBC under the slogan “The Untold Story of one of the most influential immigrants from Jamaica” [1] [2] . In addition, he was eight times on the jury of the annual Independent Music Awards, organized to promote young independent musicians [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] .
