Biography

He took an active part in the events of Euromaidan , and later created the public organization “Vasilkovskaya Self-Defense“ Otpor ”” ( Ukrainian: Vasilkivska Self-Defense “Vidsich” ). In the spring of 2014, he led the crew of volunteer humanitarian aid to the city of Severodonetsk , which was captured by terrorists. Dmitry was captured, he was brutally tortured, demanding to provide information about other volunteers and the military. Dmitry Goncharenko was shot and thrown into the river a few days before the liberation of Severodonetsk in July 2014. In April 2018, after an examination, he was reburied in Vasilkov, Kiev region .

Rewards

  • The title of Hero of Ukraine with the award of the Golden Star Order (May 9, 2019, posthumous) - “for civic courage and patriotism, heroic upholding of the constitutional principles of democracy, human rights and freedoms, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, sacrificial service to the Ukrainian people” [1] ;
  • Order “For Courage”, III degree (February 20, 2019, posthumous) - “for civic courage, selfless defense of the constitutional principles of democracy, human rights and freedoms, discovered during the Revolution of Dignity, fruitful social and volunteer activity” [2] ;
