Qualification Rules

Most Olympic licenses will be played in continental championships. Another part of the trips will be distributed according to the results of the world championships 2019 and 2020. The final stage of the qualification will be the publication of a world ranking, on the basis of which in June 2020 the holders of 12 permits (6 for men and women) will be determined. The number of licenses allocated according to the results of the world ranking can be increased if, according to the results of the world championship in 2016, athletes who have previously won tickets to the Games will be among the winners. The hosts of the Japanese national team competitions are guaranteed one quota in each discipline.
