Biography

The son of a Marseille officer and the great-nephew of the famous abbot Pelegren, who traded the Church's ministry for the career of an opera singer. In his youth, Jean-Francois de Bastide went to Paris , where he fell into the literary society " Cellar " of then fashionable authors - Dora, Favard , Voisinone , Crebillon -son - and completely surrendered to the studies of literature, becoming one of the most striking polygraphs of his time.

The author of a number of novels and short stories (The Story of a Nun ( Histoire d'une religieuse par elle-même , 1786; The Little House), plays, was a critic.

He was engaged in journalism, published in Le Nouveau spectateur (1758-1760), Le Monde tel qu'il est (1760-1761), Journal de Bruxelles ou le Penseur (1766-1767) and others.

From 1779 to 1789 he directed the publication of the World Library of Novels ( Bibliothèque universelle des romans ).

His short story "Little House", dedicated to the history of the seduction of the Marquise de Tremicourt of the young marquise named Melita, is a kind of descriptive poem in prose, which depicts in detail the decoration of the "little house" of the marquise (as the aristocratic garrisoners in France were called in the XVIII century) .
