Description
Chest with a very large crest in the front and small in the back. The front wings are often with metallic shiny spots or fields, gold or silver. Caterpillars with reduced legs on segments 6 and 7, bare, in most species green or brownish in light longitudinal stripes.
The eyes are often bordered by long cilia; the front wings are mostly metallic-shiny spots, spots, lines, diffuse reflections or shades, if they are not, then the spots of the medial system (round and tufted) are bordered by raised scales, in the genus Abrostoda , or the basal band is dark brown, and the middle one is shadow Dun on a tan background.
