Juan Ignacio Molina ( Spanish: Juan Ignacio Molina ) ( June 24, 1740 - September 12, 1829 ) was a Chilean priest and naturalist. Usually referred to in literature as Abbot Molina (Abate Molina, form Abbott Molina), or in the Italian form of his name - Giovanni Ignazio Molina .

Biography
Molina was born on a large farm Guaraculén, located near the town of Villa Alegre ( Spanish Villa Alegre ), now it is the province of Linares in the Maule region of Chile . His parents were Agustín Molina and Francisca González Bruna.
He was educated in the city of Talca and graduated from a Jesuit college in Concepcion . In 1768 Molina was forced to leave Chile when the Jesuits were driven out. He settled in Bologna and became a professor of natural sciences there.
Posted by Saggio sulla historia naturale del Chile (1782), the first scientific work on the natural history of Chile, described many new species.

Recognition
Hipolito Ruiz López and José Pavón dedicated to him an open genus of plants, naming him Molina , later this genus was regarded as a subgenus of the Bakharis genus. Then Frank Hellwig re-created this genus called Neomolina . Other botanists of Molina were devoted to the genus of cereals Moliniopsis , also known by the synonym Molinia , which came out of circulation.
