Alkanine

Alkanine , alkanet - an organic compound , a natural fat-soluble dye with the chemical formula C 16 H 16 O 5 , looks like a red powder. Received from the roots of the plant " alkane dyeing ." Used as a food coloring , it is included in the Codex Alimentarius code E103, but has been banned in several countries, including Russia since 2008.

Properties

A powder having a color from golden to dark red. Stable under normal conditions [2] .

Alkanine is structurally identical and optically enantiomorphic to shikonin (Tokyo violet) - the coloring matter of the plant "Lithospermum erythrorhizon" of the Vorobeynik genus, growing in Japan [1] .

Getting

 
Alkanna dyeing

Isolated from the roots of the plant "alkana dyeing" ( lat. Alkanna tinctoria ) by extraction. The extracted substance is not amenable to further purification [2] [1] .

Security

Alkanin / E103
It is forbidden for use in food in the countries:

  Russia (since 2008) [3]
  Ukraine [4]

Causes severe irritation in the eyes, as well as on the skin or mucous membranes. In the Russian Federation in 2008 it was excluded from the list of permissible food additives [2] [3] .
