Biography
Born in Ryazan in the family of an elementary school teacher. In 1911 he graduated from the Ryazan Men's Gymnasium (with a gold medal) and entered the Electromechanical Department of the Petersburg Polytechnic Institute. He studied intermittently until 1921.
From 1921 he taught at the Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (1921-1959) and the Leningrad Electrotechnical Institute (1931-1936). In 1930-1936. headed the department of lighting technology, created in LPI, and then transferred to LETI.
From 1923 to 1957 he worked at VNIIM . In 1943-1945 Deputy Director, from mid-1945 to 07/11/1946 Director of VNIIM.
Organized a reference photometric laboratory, one of the best of that time; for the first time in the USSR, established light and group standards based on incandescent lamps (LF). In 1941-1956 created and improved a new light standard for an absolutely black body at the solidification temperature of platinum. He developed several new instruments and methods of light measurements. Together with V.E. Kartashevskaya, who was directly involved in these works, he was awarded the Stalin Prize of the USSR (1948). He was awarded the Order of Lenin and medals.
