Makushi ( port. Macuxi ) is an indigenous Indian people living in the borderlands of southern Guyana , northern Brazil ( Roraima state ) and eastern Venezuela . They are also known as makusi , makussi , teueya and teveya .

Language
Makushi speak Makushi [1] , a language from the subgroup of the Makushi-Kapon languages, which is part of the Caribbean language family . Looking at the region, people can also speak local languages: Portuguese in Brazil, Spanish in Venezuela and English in Guyana. The Makushi language uses Latin script . The New Testament was translated to the top of its head in 1996 .
Culture
Makush live in villages connected by paths and paths. Houses in their villages are built around a central courtyard. Married birds live in the village where the wife’s family lives. Father-in-law plays a large role in the kinship of the tops.
Oral history describes the tops as descendants of the children of the sun who created fire . Also, the tops believe that they discovered Vashaku ( tops Washacá ) - the tree of life . Makush believe in the principle of life, the Stckton , and they believe that it is associated with the sun.
The tops have several epic heroes, including:
- Macunaima ( Macunaima ) - the hero, the creator of the people of the Makusha. His name means "he works at night."
- Insikiran (also known as Pia, Insikiran ) is Macunema’s younger brother.
- Canaima is an evil spirit that enslaves people, turns them into dangerous animals or makes them kill in anger. Some assassins specifically called on Kanaim with drugs or special rituals to enslave their body. [2]
History
Cuthbert Carey-Elves, a Jesuit missionary, settled in the Rupununi region of Guyana in 1909 , and lived for more than 23 years with the tops, learning their language.
In the 18th century , European colonialists seized the territory of Makushi, building new farms and villages, forcing the Makusha to relocate.
The Brazilian government has built schools and hospitals for the top of the head, and since 2005 they have been campaigning for the recognition of their land rights throughout Brazil. Some tops have a very good education. Joenia Wapixana ( Port . Joênia Wapixana ) became the first Indian lawyer to give a speech at the Brazilian Supreme Federal Tribunal.
