Club career
In 1929, the football player began his career at Alaves. In the 1929/30 season, Alaves won the Segunda and climbed to Primera. In the Spanish Championship 1930/31, the striker scored 10 goals, and Alaves took 8th place out of 10 teams. In 1931, Olivares moved to Real Madrid. As part of Real Madrid, the footballer won two championships, a national cup and the title of top scorer of the championship (16 goals in 14 matches in the 1932/33 season). In 1934, the footballer switched to Donostia, for which he played in Example. After the civil war of 1936-1939 the striker played for the clubs Examples “Zaragoza” and “Hercules”. Manuel Olivares completed his career as a player in Malaga.

In 1930, the striker played one match for the national team against Czechoslovakia .
Coaching career
In the 1940/1941 season, Manuel was a playing coach for Hercules in Example. The club took 9th place in the championship of Spain. In 1941-1943 he was a Malaga coach and was fired in the 1942/43 season. In 1944, he became a Salamanca coach and helped the club exit to Segunda, from which the club flew out in the 1945/1946 season. In the years 1946-1947. Manuel Olivares was the head coach of the Real Zaragoza football club, who became 13 in the second division and flew to Tercera.
