Nehemiah Persoff ( born Nehemiah Persoff ; born August 2, 1919 , Jerusalem [1] ) is an American actor of Jewish descent [2] [3] .

Biography
After serving in the United States Army during World War II, he worked as a subway electrician .
His first memorable appearance on the screen was the criminal authority nicknamed Little Bonaparte in the 1959 comedy “ Only Girls in Jazz ” [1] [2] . For more than a half-century career, he has taken part in two hundred films, series and theatrical productions. He played in the films of Jules Dassin, Elia Kazan, Alfred Hitchcock, Billy Wilder, Mel Ferrer, George Stevens, Damiano Damiani, Barbra Streisand, Martin Scorsese, Ivan Reitman, Mike Nichols. Having left acting in 1999, Persoff took up watercolor painting [4] . He lives in California [5] .
Since 1951, married to Zia Persoff. The spouses have four children.
