Porfiryev, Leonid Fedorovich

Born on August 21, 1920 in the village of Sosnino (now - Lychkovsky district of the Novgorod region). In 1922 he moved with his parents to the Kurgan region, in 1930 - to Leningrad.

After graduating from technical school (1936), he worked as a turner at the Baltic Shipyard. In December 1938 he entered the 1st Leningrad Aviation Technical School.

During the war he served in the 86th high-speed bomber regiment, military engineer of the 2nd rank. He fought on the South-West, Stalingrad, 4th Ukrainian fronts. He was the operative officer of counterintelligence "Smersh" in the 2nd Guards Airborne Division.

After discharge to the reserve (1946) he worked at the 470th aviation plant. In 1949 he entered the Leningrad Institute of Precision Mechanics and Optics (LITMO) at the Faculty of Engineering and Physics.

In 1951, he was drafted into the army and sent to the A.F. Mozhaisky Leningrad Air Force Academy. He graduated with honors (1956) and received a referral to the post-graduate course, in 1959 he defended his thesis. He served there: head of the research laboratory, deputy head of the department of automation.

Doctor of Technical Sciences (1965), Professor (1967).

In 1971, he was dismissed from the army with the rank of colonel.

Since 1971, he taught and conducted scientific work at LITMO: Professor, Head of the Department of Optical-Mechanical Devices (1972-1992), Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (1974-1980), Professor at the Department of Optoelectronic Devices and Systems (since 1992).

Since 1980, editor of the journal "Proceedings of the USSR: Instrument Making".

Honored Worker of Science and Technology of the RSFSR. He was awarded the orders of World War II, the Red Star, medals "For the Defense of Stalingrad", "For the Victory over Germany" and others.

At the 89th year of his life, he tragically died on October 29, 2008.

Wife - Komarova Irina Erikovna. Daughters: Porfiryeva Anna Leonidovna, Porfiryeva Vera Leonidovna.
