Mechanic, Alexander Grigorievich

Aleksandr Grigorievich Mehanik (b. July 2, 1947 , Alma-Ata ) - Russian political scientist, publicist.

He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Electronic Engineering ( 1970 ), Ph.D. In 1970-1990 he worked at the enterprise of the military-industrial complex, headed the laboratory, and led large-scale projects.

In 1969-1990 he was a member of the CPSU , in 1989 - one of the initiators and leaders of the Moscow Party Club. In 1990, he was one of the founders of the Democratic Platform in the CPSU , left the party along with other leaders of the Demplatform and became one of the founders of the Republican Party of the Russian Federation on its basis, from 1992 he was its executive secretary, in 1997 - 1998 - deputy chairman of the party. In 1993 he ran for elections to the State Duma of Russia as part of the Yavlinsky-Boldyrev-Lukin electoral association, in 1995 as part of the Pamfilova - Gurov - V. Lysenko bloc (No. 4 on the list). In 1998, he left the Republican Party, joined the Yabloko association, and was the executive secretary of the Yabloko industrial commission.

Since the 1990s he has been acting as a political expert. He was director and then vice president of the Institute for Contemporary Politics. He was the executive secretary of the Presidium of Business Russia.

Since 2002 - columnist for the Expert magazine. Deputy Director of the Institute of Public Design. He is the author of the book “Democracy without democrats, communism without communists and vice versa”, many publications in the media (in the journal Expert, Nezavisimaya Gazeta, the newspaper Today and others).
