Biography
He graduated from Örebro , Lund , Leipzig and Jena universities , where he studied philosophy and linguistics.
In 1863–1870 he worked as a literary associate in a publishing house, then as a co-editor of the newspapers Nerikes allhanda and Allehanda för folket (since 1881 - editor-in-chief of the newspaper).
He made his debut in literature with a collection of lyrical poems "Lyriska blad" (1857), positively accepted criticism; he was followed by famous translations from new and old European writers, including Turgenev and Pushkin (1871); poems " Paradise Lost " by John Milton (1862). His translation of the “ Medea ” of Euripides was awarded in 1859 the Silver Medal of the Swedish Academy.
He also translated from Sanskrit and Hungarian .
Also known are his “Lärobok i engelske språket” (1867) and “Svenskengelsk handordbok” (1872).
He committed suicide in 1904.
