Story
The game takes place in 2012 , when aliens known as the Hierarchy land on Earth in order to capture the natural resources of the planet. People were not able to organize a united defense against the aliens.
From the very beginning of the invasion, the forces of the Earth were ruthlessly destroyed by endless hordes of infantry and military equipment. Then the aliens began to collect all living and non-living in their path. Only a handful of military forces remain, and the civilian population is on the verge of extinction.
But the race of intelligent Novus robots came to the rescue of people. They were created by artificial intelligence named the Founder after the destruction of their home world by the Hierarchy. Upon arrival, they discover that the military forces of the people are still resisting.
Meanwhile, an ancient trap is activated in the great desert, sending a signal. In the depths of the oceans, another force begins to awaken - the Masari race.
Parties to the conflict and their tactics
Hierarchy
An invasive alien race invading Earth to extract planetary resources. Organic life on the planet is also an important resource for invaders. Due to the huge walking machines, dropped from orbit anywhere in the world, the Hierarchy has a huge technological superiority over humanity. The basis of their tactics is a quick attack on the enemy with a lot of powerful equipment. Almost all combat units have a high attacking potential, which gives an advantage in attack.
Novus
The race of intelligent machines, the meaning of which is the destruction of the Hierarchy. Their creators were destroyed by mighty walkers, leaving only intelligent machines scattered across the galaxy. Their hero, Mirabelle, found a relationship between people and her, since before the destruction of their home world, Novus was an organic world. Mirabelle is a creature created by intelligent machines from the DNA of fallen brothers. She is enclosed in a robot named Victor, who protects her. Unlike the other two fractions, this race is well balanced, has approximately equal defense and attack indicators. It can use different battle tactics depending on the situation. It differs from other fractions by high speed of movement.
Masari
The race of ancient explorers. Their buildings resemble the architecture of the Aztecs, Egyptians and Sumerians. Thousands of years ago, the Masari created a race of Hierarchs and prophesied a great future for them, but having received the technologies necessary for survival, the Hierarchy betrayed Masari, forcing them to hide under the surface of the Earth. Now that the Hierarchy is on Earth, Masari are burning with revenge. Their troops resemble various mythological creatures (apparently, they were the founders of all myths), such as angels and dragons. Masari also have a very interesting feature - they can "switch" between dark and light mode. In the dark mode, all troops and buildings of Masari are provided with a bonus in the form of additional armor, respectively, in the light mode, the troops cause increased damage. The main strength of the race lies in tactical warfare and strong defense, each building has serious protection from enemies. Special laboratories allow the race to strengthen its combat units for a counteroffensive . [one]
People
Although people are not a playable fraction, a player can control them at a training level. They also periodically appear in the game.

1UP.com reviewer said: “If you can't wait another year before StarCraft II , then Petroglyph and Sega have what you are looking for”
Gamepro described Universe At War as “a breath of fresh air, carrying with it the stench of something dirty. It offers three interesting and diverse sides, great graphics, and some tantalizing strategic elements, but it’s all overwhelmed by some of the unfortunate quirks that hold back the games. ”" [2]
The version of the game for the Xbox 360 received lower ratings than the PC version for "technical problems."
The game also received the status of "Editors' Choice" in the magazine " Home PC "
Russian Game Journalism
The Russian portal of games Absolute Games set the game 72%. The observer noted the original game races. The weak points were the weak plot and graphics, the presence of bugs. Verdict: “Despite the“ dark past ”of the developers, Universe at War is unlikely to get the C & C clone label. Only insignificant details and Frank Klepaki 's signature soundtrack remind of Tiberius, “Mammoths” and Kane’s brilliant bald head. Three completely different races are an essential argument in favor of the game; this is exactly what I missed in Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance. Sorry, the ideal is far. A terrible camera, which prevents casting a falconry eye over the battlefield, problems with balance, mediocre graphics and a poor plot do not allow us to hope for a high rating. ” [eleven]
Igromania magazine gave the game 7.5 points out of 10, making the following conclusion: "Strong, well-thought-out, but completely disposable RTS, suitable mainly for multiplayer games." [12]

Soundtrack
All tracks were written by composer Frank Klepaki , who wrote music for the Command & Conquer and Dune series. The soundtrack itself was released on December 22, 2007. The soundtrack of the Hierarchy is sustained in a heavy industrial style, with aggressive and rhythmic tempos. The Novus theme contains mostly techno . The Masari theme contains gloomy imperial motifs. The last track is a combination of others.
