History
It was founded on the basis of the Higher Pedagogical School, which operated since 1909. In 1971, the school was reorganized into the Pedagogical Institute ( Alb. Institut i Lartë Pedagogjik Aleksandër Xhuvani ). In 1991, a university was created on its basis. It bears the name of Alexander Juvani , an Albanian linguist, writer, and the oldest public education activist in Albania.

The University also has a Center for Albanian and Balkan Studies (Qendra e Kërkimeve Albanologjike dhe Ballkanike).
The university has 3,500 full-time students and 4,500 part-time students.
The teaching staff is 245 people, of which 8 have the title of professor. 44 foreign invited teachers also give lectures.
