History

The forerunner of the modern church was a wooden church, also consecrated in honor of the Protection of the Holy Virgin [1] . The first mention of this church dates back to 1540 [2] . Its main relic was the icon of the Virgin , which was considered miraculous . In the XVIII century, the icon was decorated with a silver vote of 1705 Stanislav Leshchinsky , the King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania , in honor of the perfect foot pilgrimage to the icon [1] .

From the old church there was a bell dated 1506 [2] (according to other sources, 1501 ), which was stored in Sobakintsy (the then name of modern Pershemaysk ) until the end of the 19th century [1] .

The first stone temple was erected in 1830 , but the building was short-lived [3] . The construction of the modern building of the Holy Protection Church began in 1865 and ended by April 1869 [1] .

There was a school at the temple, in which 41 students studied in 1887 [1] .

The temple remained operational throughout the Soviet period, but the building was seriously damaged after a fire in 1948 [1] .

Architecture

Holy Protection Church is an architectural monument of retrospective-Russian style . The building is made of rubble stone and brick in the neoclassical style with baroque elements. The prayer room is square in plan, covered by a hipped roof, crowned by a bulbous head . A three- story tent bell tower ( octagon on two fours ), crowned with a poppy, communicates with the main volume of the building through a short refectory. A low rectangular apse under the hip roof is attached to the altar facade. Polychrome rubble wall masonry is decorated with stucco elements of architectural decor, arched friezes, corner shovels , keel-like single and double arched window openings [3] .

Modern Parish

The parish of the temple includes the May Day Village Council , as well as some settlements of the Novodvorsk Village Council of Shchuchinsky District and Zabolotsky Village Council of the Voronovsky District . The parish has at its disposal two parish houses , a church garden, and a Sunday school. In 2010, the parish numbered approximately 1,700 parishioners [4] .

The temple currently has the following values [4] :

  • Relics transported from the Church of the Holy Right Grand Duke Alexander Nevsky in the village of Zabolotsky Village Council of the Voronovsky District: altar metal cross of 1913, the Royal Doors, the image of Alexander Nevsky in a case.
  • A revered list of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God in Kyoto.
  • Other icons in the icon cases: "St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker", "Resurrection of Christ", "Intercession of the Most Holy Theotokos".

Some abbots of the temple

  • From 1982 to 2004 - Priest Nikolai Skrebets.
  • From 2004 to 2005 - Priest Evgeny Povelchuk.
  • Since 2005 - Priest Alexander Lebedich [4] .
