Development
Type 170 was the first of the Bristol Aeroplane Company projects after World War II . This aircraft had a short range. The aircraft was a high-wing aircraft with a double-winged bow door, a crew cabin above the cargo compartment, a fixed gear [2] and two Bristol Hercules engines installed in the wing with a gas distribution of the gas mixture.
Bristol manufactured two versions of this type of aircraft:
- Freight Type 170 Mk I Freiter (Freiter)
- Passenger Type 170 MK II Wayfarer (Weifarer)
Weifrerer had a solid bow, a side entrance door, and a reinforced cargo floor. But it also existed in several different interior layouts and accommodated up to 32 passengers, a kitchen and a toilet. [3]
But in 1953, Super Wayfarer was also developed, which could accommodate two or three cars and up to 23 passengers. Later, another version of Super Wayfarer was developed, which already accommodated 60 passengers and was used for multi-channel flights to Europe.
First Flight
The first flight of the experimental Freiter aircraft took place on December 2, 1945.
Wayfarer , which held 32 seats - April 30, 1946
According to the results of operational tests, the wing span was increased by 3.05 meters to increase lift . This entailed the installation of more powerful engines. The resulting aircraft was designated Type 170 Freiter Mk 21 . The most famous option was the Type 170 Freiter Mk 32 with a fuselage extended by 1.52 meters. [four]
