A shameful kiss ( lat. Osculum infame ) is a medieval belief that was spread during the witch hunt , according to which at the beginning of the coven the witches performed the ritual of greeting the devil , which included kissing the devil’s buttocks or “second mouth”, that is, the anus - anilingus [ 1] [2] . Also, this kiss allowed the devil to seduce women.

Description
A shameful kiss is usually seen as an act of reverence, respect, but the Vedic courts of North Berwick ( Scotland ) in the 16th century were of the opinion that this kiss was an act of repentance to the devil, reckoning with him [1] [2] . In the earliest treatise on Scottish witchcraft - the anonymous pamphlet " News from Scotland - a statement about the disastrous life and death of Dr. John Fian "(1591) about the school teacher and the alleged sorcerer John Fiane , whose authorship is attributed to John Carmichael, said [1] [2] :
... and saw how they trudged after him, and when they gathered, he imposed a penance on them, which was that they should kiss his buttocks in honor of him. He put the naked ass on the pulpit , and each did as he ordered her
Original text... and seeing that they tarried over long, hee at their coming enjoyed them all to a pennance, which was, that they should kisse his buttockes, in sign of duety to him, which being put over the pulpit bare, every one did as he had enjoyned them.
Litigation
The devil appeared not only in his “usual” form (see images below), but also in the guise of a ram, goat, black cat , and toad. Errores Haereticorum , a medieval treatise, claims that the Cathars took their name from Lat. catus (cat), "whose ass they kissed, in the guise of which Satan is him" [1] [2] .
The Templars were accused of a shameful kiss, who were attributed that during the initiation they had to kiss their leaders on the anus, navel, lower back and phallus [1] [2] .
In 1303, the Lord Treasurer of England and the Bishop of Lichfield and Coventry were accused of serving the devil and witchcraft Walter Langton . One of the charges was a shameful kiss. However, he was able to withdraw from himself all the charges [1] [2] .
In France, Guillaume Edeline, Doctor of the Sorbonne, was accused of witchcraft, admitting his guilt of having made a disgraceful kiss when the devil appeared before him in the guise of a cat. He was executed in 1453 [1] [2] .
