Biography
From hereditary nobles. A native of Kostroma province.
He graduated from the Yaroslavl Military School (1896) and the Odessa Infantry Junker School in the 2nd category (1898), from where he was released as ensign in the 70th Ryazhsky Infantry Regiment . October 8, 1899 made a second lieutenant in the same regiment [1] . He was promoted to lieutenant on October 1, 1904, and to captains on October 1, 1908
In the First World War he took up the post of commander of the 6th company of the 70th Ryazh Infantry Regiment. He was promoted to captain on August 4, 1914 " for his long service ." Granted by St. George's Arms

| Because on the eve of the general night attack of the fortified position near the village of Pikula-Groble, on his own initiative, on May 21, 1915, he reconnoitered the approaches to the enemy position and correctly identified its weak point under strong gunfire. August 16, 1916 promoted to lieutenant colonel . On April 28, 1917 he was appointed commander of the 71st Infantry Belevsky Regiment , and on August 28 of the same year he was promoted to colonel with approval in office [2] . After the October Revolution , on November 21, 1917, the regimental and company committees recognized Colonel Makhayev as a counter-revolutionary and appealed to the Military Revolutionary Committee of the 5th Army Army Executive Committee with a demand to immediately bring him to a military revolutionary court [3] .
During the Civil War he participated in the White Movement in the South of Russia , in 1920 he was an assistant to the chief of the 1st Kuban Plastun Brigade. He was promoted to major general on April 19, 1920 on the basis of the St. George Statute [4] . The further fate is unknown. He was married, had a daughter.
