HMS Duncan (D37) (from English - “Her Majesty's Duncan destroyer, tail number 37”) - British destroyer type 45 , or Daring class, of the Royal Navy . It is the sixth and last of the ships of this type. Named after Adam Duncan, 1st Viscount Duncan (1731-1804), who defeated the Dutch fleet at the Battle of Camperdown on October 11, 1797.

Construction and Testing
Construction of the Duncan began at the BAE Systems Naval shipyards (currently BAE Systems Maritime - Naval Ships) in Gowan and Scotston ( Glasgow ) in Clyde in 2006. The ship was launched in Govan on October 11, 2010 [2] on the day of the 213rd anniversary of the Battle of Camperdown [3] . Sea trials took place on August 31, 2012 after leaving the Scotstone shipyard, Glasgow. It was put into operation on September 26, 2013 [4] .
History
The Duncan became the sixth and final type 45 destroyer. He entered service on December 30, 2013.
In 2015, Duncan was deployed in the Mediterranean Sea and the Middle East [5] . On July 7, 2015, he joined the 12th US Navy carrier strike group , led by USS Abraham Lincoln , which carried out ISIS attacks [6] .
In April 2016, as part of a group of ships of the Royal Navy, together with the French Navy participated in the exercises “Griffin strike” [7] . In October 2016, together with the frigate HMS, Richmond accompanied a group of Russian Navy vessels, including the flagship aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov , passing through the English Channel on the way to Syria [8] . In November 2016, while sailing off the coast of England after a complete engine failure, it was towed to Plymouth for repair [9] .
In June-September 2017, he was the flagship of the NATO Permanent Maritime Group 2 (SNMG2), operating in the Black and Mediterranean Seas [10] [11] . In January 2018, he visited the Mediterranean and Black Sea ports such as Constanta , Souda Bay and Split , and again took command of SNMG2 until July 2018.
In November-December 2018, the British documentary Channel 5 shot a military documentary titled Warship: Life at Sea, which captured everyday life on board a ship during its deployment to NATO, including collisions with Russian warships and aircraft . In the program, the ship’s crew often stated that Duncan could detect “an object the size of a tennis ball moving at a speed 3 times the speed of sound, at a distance of more than 100 miles” [12] [13] [14] .
In July 2019, he visited Odessa . July 12, 2019 was sent to the Persian Gulf to protect cargo ships and oil tankers, connecting with the frigate HMS Montrose [15] [16] .
