Description
Small and medium sized beetles. The body shape is narrow, elongated, cylindrical. The main body color is brown. The antennae are ten-segmented. Elytra shortened at apex. Legs are short, claws are simple. The formula of the legs is 5-5-5, the same for females and males. It is similar to the genus Thione , but in Shoguna the fifth ventrite is distinctly longer than the fourth and sharply narrowed posteriorly (in the first kind they are approximately equal). Adult Shoguna can be found in bark beetle galleries. Australian coleopterologist John Lawrence suggested in 1984 that the beetles of the tribe Thionini ( Arunus , Shoguna , Thione ) found in bark beetle galleries feed on various species of fungi in tunnels [1] [2] .
