The Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports (TGIFS) (Turkmen. Türkmen döwlet bedenterbiýe sport sport institute) is a higher education institution (higher educational institution) of Turkmenistan located in Ashgabat, which trains specialists in the field of sports and mass sports and fitness movement.
Content
History
On January 9, 1997, it was transformed from the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture into the National Institute of Sport and Tourism of Turkmenistan and transferred from the balance sheet of the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan to the balance sheet of the Committee for Physical Culture and Sports under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan .
Since January 26, 2018, it has been included in the system of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Policy of Turkmenistan .
On June 13, 2019 it was renamed the Turkmen State Institute of Physical Culture and Sports.

Students
In the 2016/2017 academic year, the National Institute of Sports and Tourism of Turkmenistan accepted 410 people for the 1st year.
In the academic year 2016/2017, about 1,525 students studied at NIST.
Building
The new complex of NIST buildings was commissioned in December 2012. The complex consists of a main 12-story administrative building and two four-story educational buildings. In the NIST two-story gym there are volleyball, basketball, handball and indoor soccer courts, halls for judo, boxing, national wrestling, and a gym. In the surrounding area there are summer playgrounds for playing sports and a tennis court.
The NIST building complex is designed for training 1,600 students. The cost of the complex built by the French company Bouygues Turkmen is $ 80 million (excluding VAT).
