Kars-maker


“Kars-maker” , “Kers-maker” or “Kersmaker” is a sailing galliot of the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Empire , its own Imperial Majesty Peter I galliot, a participant in the war for the Polish inheritance .

Service History

Galliot “Kars-maker” was launched in 1723 in St. Petersburg , the exact place of launch and the name of the shipyard has not been established. After launching, the ship was included in the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Empire [1] [2] .

From July to September 1727 he took part in the sailing of a detachment under the command of Vice Admiral N. A. Senyavin in Kiel , in October the galliot returned to St. Petersburg, where his commander was released on annual leave [3] . From September and October 1733 he sailed from Kronstadt to Danzig [1] [4] .

During the war for the Polish inheritance in 1734, he took part in the operations of the Russian fleet near Danzig. In May, was captured by the French fleet and delivered to the Danzig Canal. June 18 (29) of the same year was recaptured from the French by Russian troops and returned to the fleet. The guns and supplies were loaded on the galliot, and he, as part of the Russian squadron, left Danzig for Kronstadt . On July 2 (13), the squadron arrived at the Kronstadt raid [1] [5] .

On September 10 (21), as part of a Baltic Fleet ship detachment, he left Kronstadt and headed for Reval , however, during the September 12 (23) transition , he crashed due to map errors, during which one of the crew members died [1] [6 ] ] [7] .
