Biography
Paul MacDowell was born on January 17, 1905 in Philadelphia , PA .
He was engaged in rowing in the local Philadelphia club Pennsylvania Barge Club, in which he repeatedly became the winner and prize winner of the national championship.
The highest success in rowing at the international level was achieved in the 1928 season, when he joined the main team of the American national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in Amsterdam . In the program of oar steeringless doubles, together with teammate at the Philadelphia club John Schmitt, he successfully overcame all the preliminary stages, then at the stage of the semi-finals he was defeated by the German team. In the consolation race for third place, the Italian team defeated and thereby won the bronze Olympic medal.
Subsequently, he proved himself as a sports director, was the owner of a newspaper company.
He died on August 14, 1962 in Philadelphia at the age of 57.
