Biography
Born in 1955 in Hiroshima . He took his first music lessons from his mother, who played the Japanese traditional koto instrument. At the beginning of his career, he did not show interest in folk music. He was more interested in European music: first Mozart and Beethoven , and then JS Bach and Schubert . He studied composition and piano at the University of Tokyo from 1971 to 1976 . During this period, he heard two compositions by Korean composer Isan Yoon : Reak ( 1966 ) and Dimensionen ( 1971 ). In his own words: “The music of Isan Yun made an impression on me, as if a large stream of the Asian sound universe swam in front of me.” In the same year, he decided to go to West Berlin to study composition with Isan Yoon at the Berlin University of the Arts . In piano, he studied with Rolf Kunert , and analysis was conducted with Vitold Salonek . Further, in 1983 - 1986 he studied with Klaus Huber and Brian Fernihou at the Freiburg Higher School of Music . From this period began his fascination with traditional music. He lived in Germany, Austria, Switzerland for several decades. In 2005, in Salzburg, with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the premiere of his composition Circulating Ocean (conducted by Valery Gergiev ) was successfully held
