Biography

She was born on December 20, 1903 in the village of Shakhmatovo, Vorobevsky volost, Gzhatsky district (now - Gagarinsky district, Smolensk region).

The family had 14 children, and five survived. [2]

In 1906, the Matveevs left for St. Petersburg and lived there until 1917. [2]

Father, Timofey Matveyevich Matveev (1871-1918), worked at the Putilov factory in St. Petersburg, mother - Anna Egorovna Matveeva (1875-1922) earned washing clothes. [2]

During the First World War , his father became disabled. [2]

She studied at the Putilov School , where they taught calligraphy, the Russian language, natural sciences, the law of God, taught the rules of good form, home economics, sewing and knitting. [2]

The elder sister Maria joined the Putilov-Yuryev partisan detachment as a nurse, the elder brother Sergey (1899-1922), together with other Putilovites enrolled in the Red Guard . [2]

After the revolution, they returned to the village of Shakhmatovo, in 1922, brother Sergey died of typhus , nine days later his mother died, at 19, Anna was left with two children. [2]

In November 1923, she married Alexei Gagarin, the son of a peasant from the village of Klushin near Gzhatsk.

Soon the children appeared: the first-born Valentin was born in 1925, the daughter of Zoya in 1927, Yuri in 1934, Boris in 1936.

At first she worked in a field and a greenhouse, and then worked as a milkmaid and head of a pig farm .

In 1946 she moved with her family to Gzhatsk . After the death of her son, Yuri wrote such books as “Memory of the Son” and “Memory of the Heart”.

She died on June 12, 1984 .

She was buried at the Predtechensky cemetery in Gagarin next to her husband and sons Boris and Valentin, and daughter Zoya. [one]

Memory

In 2001, in Gagarin, near the house where Anna Timofeevna lived with her family, a monument was erected to her. [one]

In May 2008, the “Mother Glory” badge of the name of Anna Timofeevna Gagarina was approved, which is awarded to mothers who have given birth or adopted a fourth or subsequent child. [one]

Personal life

In 1923, she married Alexei Ivanovich Gagarin (1.1902–30.8.1973), worked as a shepherd, carpenter, commandant of the school of FZU, a carpenter at the factory “Dynamik”, was buried at the Predtechensky cemetery in Gagarin, and had been married for almost 50 years. [one]
