Record
Bodysnatchers was recorded in one live take in a dilapidated mansion. Nigel Godrich , the producer of In Rainbows, thought that if you put the band in an "uncomfortable" atmosphere, it would create an interesting atmosphere for the recording, which would differ little from the atmosphere during the OK Computer recording, which took place in the mansion of St Catherine's Court in the city of Bath . The group lived in caravans surrounding the mansion while records were being kept. Vocalist Tom York said that “this song looks like this if Neu! started to play some kind of hippie rock. Sounds like that new Australian band Wolfmother . ” [1] He later stated that the “Bodysnatchers” was inspired by Victorian ghost stories, the Stepford Wives book and a feeling when “your physical consciousness fell into a trap and could not fully connect with anything else” [2] . York and guitarist Johnny Greenwood performed the Bodysnatchers for the first time in May 2006 at The Big Ask at the KOKO Theater in London . [3]
Release
In the run-up to the physical release, In Rainbows , ATO Records, and its Side One Recordings division launched Bodysnatchers on American radio. [4] The ATO was subsequently chosen as the official label for the US release. [5] The track gained great popularity on Modern Rock Radio and climbed to 8th place on the Billboard Hot Modern Rock Tracks in February 2008. [6] [7] Bodysnatchers became the group's highest spot on the chart after the 1993 Creep . [eight]
