Production

Filming began in 1991 in Kyrgyzstan , which at that time was still part of the Soviet Union . During the production process, the script was repeatedly rewritten and finalized (for example, after the filming began, material about Genghis Khan's childhood was added), and the original director of the film, Tolomush Okeev, was subsequently replaced by Peter Duffel [3] . By the time most of the filming was completed, the Soviet Union had begun to disintegrate, and the actors and crew involved in making the film were recalled to their respective embassies. For a number of these reasons, the post-production was not completed until 2010 , when Madison Motion Pictures Group acquired the rights to the original shots with the intention of releasing them in the same year under the name “Genghis Khan: A Life Story” in the form of a two-hour feature film and a six-hour television series [4 ] [5] .
