The name according to the location of the village in the overgrowth of thickets (willow, vine, talnik) with the designation of the diminutive suffix -onk / -enk, typical for toponyms [2] .

The village is located in the center of the region, in the northern part of the Torzhok district, on the right bank of the Tvertsa river, about 65 km north-west of the regional center - the city of Tver - 7.5 km north of the regional center - the city of Torzhok - and 2 km west of the federal highway "Russia" M10 [3] [4] . The nearest settlements are the villages of Vasilevo , Mitino and Prutnya .

According to 1859, the state village of the 2nd camp of the Novotorzhye district of the Tver province , at the Tvertsa river, 12 versts from the county town and 27 versts from the stav flat, with 14 courtyards, a lock and 156 residents (74 men, 82 women) [ 5] . In 1884, the village of Prutensky Parish, Novotorzhsky Volost, Novotorzhsky Uyezd with 22 yards and 137 inhabitants (71 men, 66 women) [6] .

The village has the remains of a stone gateway. It was built in 1709 to bypass the river rapids available in this section of Tvertsa [7] .
