Description of the monument
The waterfall is located in a deep rocky niche on the southern slope of the Karash ridge, from where the Medvezhy creek flows down from the Zhambas pass. Like all watercourses in this area, it has a glacial origin. According to geologists, about a million years ago, significant tectonic movements occurred in the mountains, and therefore the stream bed formed. The waterfall is located at around 1520 meters above sea level. Its height is 28 meters, and water consumption is 0.4 cu. m. in sec. The stormy and foamy stream of water literally crashes into the rock, as if trying to break through it, completing the picturesque landscape of rocks hanging from three sides, broken at one time by an earthquake. The smallest splashes scatter in all directions, forming a real cloud. The water dust refreshes and invigorates, because the temperature of the stream, even on a hot day, does not exceed 12 degrees. The cliffs at the waterfall store clear imprints of plants from the preglacial period. This is especially noticeable in winter, when the waterfall freezes and turns into a huge icicle. This circumstance attracts sportsmen - extremes, climbing the icefall to its top. The name of the waterfall is not accidental. Once there were a lot of brown (white-clad bears) here. Here, in the zone of mixed forests, an abundance of pasture for clubfoot. It fits both a fallen apple, a bush of a blackberry, and a wild raspberry. The monument is located on the territory of the Ile-Alatau State National Park , which was established by a Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on February 22, 1996. The park is located on the northern slopes of the Trans-Ili Alatau in close proximity to the southern capital of Almaty . Its length from the Chemolgan River in the west and to the Turgen River [1] in the east is 120 km, and reaches 30 km across. The park area is 202292 ha. The trail leading to the “Bear”, starts from 19 km of the gorge. The system of tourist signs is available. The length of the route is about 1.5 km. Along the way there are benches and tables for a short rest, which greatly facilitates the movement of the elderly and people with disabilities.
