Howard Thayer Kingsbury Jr .; Howard Thayer Kingsbury Jr .; , - , ) is an American rower who played for the US national rowing team in the mid-1920s. Champion of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris in the classification of eights, winner and winner of many student regattas.

Biography

Howard Kingsbury was born on September 11, 1904 in New York , USA .

He was engaged in rowing while studying at Yale University in New Haven, was a member of the local Yale Bulldogs rowing team, and repeatedly participated in various student regattas.

The highest success in rowing at the international level was achieved in the 1924 season, when, while still a university student, he entered the main team of the American national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Summer Olympic Games in Paris . In the swinging eights with the helmsman he successfully overcame the semifinal stage and in the decisive final race he overtook all his rivals, including over 15 seconds ahead of the closest pursuers from Canada - thereby winning the Olympic gold medal.

After graduating from university in 1926, for some time he worked as an engineer in the field of civil engineering, but soon left this occupation and entered Oxford University . Subsequently, he proved himself as a teacher.

His son Fred Kingsbury (1927-2011) also graduated from Yale University and also achieved some success in rowing, a bronze medalist at the Summer Olympics in London .

He died on October 27, 1991 in the village of Yarmouth Port , Massachusetts , at the age of 87.
