History
The first Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Rechulsky monastery was built in 1798, and the first abbot was Hieromonk Irenaeus. Skit lived by a special multiplier statute [1] .
In 1811, the monastery was converted into a female one and nuns were transferred to it from the closed Manovsky monastery, which was located near the Kurkovsky monastery . Nun Anysia became the first superior. In 1822, at the abbess of the Olympics, a wooden winter church was built in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker . In 1845, under the abbess of Euphrosyne, a stone summer church was erected in a new place in honor of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since 1854 divine services were held in Romanian. In 1855-1860 a new winter St. Nicholas church was built, and the old one was already destroyed by then. In 1878, a school was opened for orphans of the clerical class and local girls from poor families. In the years 1907-1910, the summer church was rebuilt [1] .
On August 3, 1938, the monastery was renamed in honor of Maria Oltei , mother of Stephen III the Great , and bore this name until the end of the war. On July 2, 1959, after ten days of resistance, the monastery was closed by Soviet authorities. During the confrontation, one person was killed, three were seriously injured. Eight people were sentenced to various terms of imprisonment. At the time of closure, the monastery had 230 inhabitants. 35 hectares of monastic lands were transferred to the local collective farm [1] . The building of the summer church was turned into a warehouse, the winter one into a house of culture [2] .
The revival of the monastery began in 1989, led by Eustathius (Rotar). In 1990, when the monastery received state registration, 70 natives already entered the monastic community. In 1994, the summer church was consecrated [1] .
