According to some reports, Sogdom began to rule since 700 , according to other sources, from 705 or 707 . Known for the fact that in 707, having entered into an alliance with the Bukharas and Turgeshes , he actively fought against the Arab conquerors during the Arab invasion and Islamization in Central Asia . After the Arab invaders, led by Kuteiba ibn Muslim, captured Bukhara in 709 , foreseeing a possible similar fate for Samarkand , Tarhun concluded an agreement with them, and some Sogdians led by him were forced to pay tribute . Tarhun sent his ambassadors to the Arabs to Bukhara, and recognized their authority. These events created discontent and rebellion within the Sogdian elite, and Tarhun was displaced by the Sogdian aristocracy due to excessive gentleness, caution and an Islamic position. Instead, Tarhuna began to rule Gurek . After being removed from power, Tarhun was imprisoned, where he committed suicide . Two of his sons managed to escape east - to Panjakent , to the courtyard of another Sogdian ruler - the athena Devashtich , where they were received very well and treated with respect.
